About the Speaker

Duncan McRee, PhD

Director of Crystallography, Syrrx Inc., San Diego, CA
Adjunct Professor of Molecular Biology, Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA

Prior to joining Syrrx, Dr. McRee was a faculty member at The Scripps Research Institute since 1989 where he ran an active program in determining metalloprotein structures by X-ray crystallography, including the first structure of rabbit microsomal P450. Dr. McRee has over 40 entries in the PDB and is an author on over 50 publications. Since moving to Syrrx in 2000, Dr. McRee's team has solved 150 crystal structures of 75 unique proteins, including 18 human kinases.

Dr. McRee wrote "Practical Protein Crystallography", a popular handbook for crystallography students and is the author of XtalView, a widely used software system for X-ray structure determination.

Dr. McRee did his post-doctoral training with John Tainer at The Scripps Research Institute where he was a Helen Hay Whitney Fellow from 1985-1988 after obtaining his Ph.D. at Duke University with David C. Richardson in 1984 and his Biochemistry degree at the University of California, Davis in 1978.
